Passing a better example, not the buck

My teen asked me, when I said I didn’t recommend alcohol at his age, “why can’t we just live life like how we want to, if we’re going to die anyway?” He got quite upset. I answered him honestly, “because I don’t. I don’t live my life the way I want too. So I pass the buck onto you. I am sorry. I am changing that. I am making it so I can live the way I want too, and pass a better example on to you.”
