The ego is part of one’s thought system; therefore, it cannot be destroyed. But it may be surrendered to peaceful correction.
The ego is the part of mind that believes the body proves separation from Source, and thus is the part of mind that is terrified of both formed, and formless Reality. The terror arises from the thought that in Reality, one could potentially come to “not exist”. Since one believes self to be separated-by-body from Source, physical death seems as if a terrible, unavoidable end.
The ego is the part of mind that struggles for its own sovereignty; it is the part of mind that believes it created the Son or its Source, not God. It is the part of mind that thinks that because one believes ego to be “trumping” God’s Authorship, that one has a generalized reason to be afraid. It can’t know that God’s only Authorship is Love. It is the part of mind that does not believe in Love. The ego can’t know fears are unfounded, but with deference to the Holy Spirit, the ego is laid aside, and you can.
The ego part of one’s thought system doesn’t “die”, it is tenacious and the very foundation of Earthly existence, but it does get laid aside and exchanged for a corrected thought system. The ego is, after all, only thought, an hallucination. It is the part of mind that believes in vilifying Love, and yet vilification of Love can never be made real. Listen to ego, and one will feel separated from Love Itself. Let go of listening to it, and the hallucination is peacefully corrected – by Love, Itself.
